Pomorie, formerly known as Anhialo, is a town and seaside resort, located on a narrow rocky peninsula in Bourgas Bay. The town was founded in the 4th century BC alongside a saline lake, called sacred by the ancient Thracians due to its curative properties. The lovely sandy beach, rich in iron, is opened in the east and west and protected by the Balkan Mountains in the north. The sea bottom near the coast is shallow, plain and slightly sloping.
